The Buddhist Education Foundation for Canada (BEFC) is founded to advance Buddhist education that would open our minds to the teachings of the Buddha as an alternative paradigm to the blind pursuit of materialistic pleasures. It is an education that can lead to personal freedom and happiness as well as interpersonal peace and harmony.

Our modern society places excessive emphasis on materialism. Many personal, familial and social problems develop as a result of our discontent, our fear of not obtaining or losing what we desire. Our youths are constantly bombarded by the messages of materialistic pursuits as the only viable way of living. They often miss the opportunity to learn the value of attaining inner peace arising from helping rather than harming, from a mind purified of destructive emotions.

Through the support of Buddhist Education in Canadian universities, we aim to provide more opportunities to students to explore the Buddha's teachings as alternative perspectives and methodologies to handle the stress of modern living, to better understand themselves and their place in the world.
