The 2012 Buddhist
Education Foundation Essay Competition is now accepting essay submissions.
Undergraduate students attending any university are eligible to apply. In
2012, the first prize will be $1000, the second prize will be $400, and the
third prize will be $200. Deadline

received an Arbor Award in September 2009
Ms.
Chris Ng, Co-founder and Secretary of BEFC, received an Arbor Award from
the University
of Toronto for her
outstanding volunteer service to raise the profile of Buddhist studies at
the university.
Professor Tony Toneatto received Award
for Teaching Excellence in May 2009
Professor Toneatto who teaches Buddhist
Psychology – Theories and Applications (a course sponsored by our
Foundation) was nominated by undergraduate students for teaching
excellence. He was one of five
professors selected to receive the U.T.S.U/APUS Undergraduate Teaching
Awards for teaching excellence in 2008/2009.
Exciting news in April 2009 – a MILESTONE for Buddhist studies in Canada
Completion of a gift agreement between our
Foundation and the University
of Toronto
A
Buddhist Education Foundation Fund (expandable 5-year, pledge of
$60,000/year totaling $300,000) at New College
is created to fund
(1) up
to two and a half regular courses,
(2) two
half special topic courses,
(3)
speakers’ series and conference
annually
in the Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program.
A
Buddhist Education Foundation Endowment Fund (pledge of $1.5 million) at
the University
of Toronto is created
to endow the Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program. This fund will
enable the creation of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary academic and
research unit for the study of Buddhism at the University of Toronto.
We will need the generosity of the Buddhist community to contribute toward
this endowment fund as our gift to the future generation!

The Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health
Program and its courses experience very robust growth in student enrolments.
In the fall of 2010, there are 120 students
enrolled to graduate with this minor degree. In the school year of
2010 to 2011, there are 355 student registrations in 7 courses with an
additional 109 on the waiting lists.
